I do believe that green tea is an acquired taste. I never really liked anything green tea until my dad requested that I make him green tea muffins. It was so good and that's when my love for green tea started. Despite the constant rain it still feels quite hot and humid these days so I thought of a refreshing drink to whip up. There is hardly anything in the fridge but good thing I still have some green tea powder on hand so I decided to make a refreshing iced green tea, kind of like the one from Starbucks. I actually got this idea from Parisbut I wanted something green tea and she didn't provide the measurement of some ingredients so this is what I came up with. I was so happy with how it turned out. It was really creamy and delicious but with the healthy benefits of green tea.
The end result kind of looked like coffee instead of green tea but I swear its green tea! haha! I used muscovado sugar thus the brownish, creamy color. Here are the things I used to create this delicious, refreshing drink.
1/2 cup of milk (preferably soy milk for a healthier version)
about 6-8 cubes of ice
1/2 tablespoon of Matcha green tea
1 tablespoon of sugar
a splash of whipped cream (optional)
Just whip them all up together in a blender if you want it frappe-like or just stir them for an ice cold drink. I like my drink to be a bit frothy so I added a splash of whipped cream. You can choose to skip this step if you don't want the extra calories. Or you can top it ala-Starbucks if you want and sprinkle a bit of green tea powder on top. You can use Stivia as sweetener or honey or even blue agave. They are healthy sugars and great even for diabetics. I don't really recommend using Splenda as a chef once told me, Splenda is made out of chemicals and not really good for your body. Stivia is the better sweetener alternative especially for diabetics. We use muscovado sugar here at home and it's also a healthy kind of sugar but it will darken your drink just like what happened to mine. haha!
