Coming of Age

It's so cliche the saying "time flies so fast." But come to think of it, time really does fly so fast - as in lightning fast (another hyperbole of mine). I can still remember last year like it happened just a month ago or so, and now we are in mid-October and it's only a few days before Christmas is here and then New Year is here and then voila! It's 2013. I don't like to think much about time because I feel like it's running away from me. Whenever I try to think that I still have time, I have tomorrow to do such and such, reminiscing about yesterday's events - I just feel like I don't have enough of  it and and soon, I will perish from this world. So as much as possible I try to live on a daily basis and just do what I can do for the day.

Last month, I witnessed one of my cousins come of age. We are not really close because of a previous family feud and we hardly really see or talk to each other prior to that but we attended anyways because they invited us. I can't believe how much all of them have grown. I haven't seen them in so many years it's really surprising how much they all have changed. It made me feel old. I remember them as little kids running around our grandparent's house on Christmas Day, playing with each other, fighting with each other, eating like no other - I remember them being so young. And my, have they grown so fast. I am one of the older cousins, my older sister being the eldest on both sides of the family so I have seen all my cousins as little babies and grow up right before my eyes. Seeing them so grown up now, makes me feel old. Time really flies so fast.

Aging is one thing that many of us try to avoid as much as possible. With the introduction of botox, laser resurfacing, stem cell and whatever surgical procedure there is that I haven't heard of, people have found a way to look and feel younger again. I am not an avid fan of going under the knife because I have full blown allergies to pain and because I think aging is what makes us alive and human. But I also have nothing against people who want to do this for themselves if it means getting back lost self esteem and a better stance towards life. I just don't think I have the fortitude for the pain that is packaged with it. As for me, I just try to take care of my skin as much as possible. I do use products that promote collagen production to prevent wrinkles from developing and to keep my skin supple. Because time really flies so fast that the next thing you know, a few lines will start popping here and there. I am not saying wrinkles are a bad thing, but for a mid-20 something lady, I think that's premature and they are not supposed to show up until you are, like, in your 40's.

But no matter what we do, no matter how hard we try to defy time by looking younger, it is still inescapable. Time will age us and soon we become parents, then grandparents, and to life after death (yes, I believe in life after death). We just look young but our ages tell us how old we really are and soon our bodies will become indications as well. So as much as I can, I want to seize the day. Even if i stay at home (because of work), I do things that I want to do to help me seize the day such as cooking. I like to eat a lot of good food but I hardly dine in restaurants because that would mean added expenses which I could have used for something else and because I can't find anyone who would be willing to go food tripping with me (not even my boyfriend). I can cook a complete meal by the way and before I die, I want to cook as many dishes as I can and eat as many delectable cuisines as I can. I seize my day through food (which is kind of ironic because I ain't gaining any weight).

Time is irreversible and it can't go backwards. We only move forward. Stop holding back and strip away all your inhibitions. Let us all start living the life that we want because we can only do it once. We can never go back to being 18. Do what it is that you want today and avoid regretting not being able to do the things that you want to in the end. As long as you are breathing, it is never too late to do what it is that you have always wanted to do. I know I can't go back to being 18 and party like a teenager should. But there are things that I can still do today that I know I won't regret in the future.

I just thought of sharing to you the makeup look I had on that night. I am not a pro with doing makeup especially eyeliner. I know my eyeliner skills still has a lot to improve but I am working on it. What do you think?

If you are wondering about the hairstyle that I did, here is the video of where I got the idea from.

Have a lovely Thursday! :)
