Short Post: Hello and Goodbye + Giveaway Winner

I hate it when I get left behind. I don't like it when people say hello and then goodbye the next day. I don't like the feeling of people coming and going. But the sad reality is, everyone will come and go in your life. It is rather unfortunate, but that is how life is. People can't stay beside you forever. At some point, you have to let go of them.

Sometimes I do suffer from what people call separation anxiety. I get easily attached to people that it breaks my heart when one or the other has to go. Saying goodbye isn't really my forte. But we have to accept that life will always be like this: a series of hellos and goodbyes. Goodbye doesn't really mean the ending or the closing of your relationship or of your life, it is just a signal that there is another hello that awaits you.

Half Empty

I have a confession: I am a pessimist.

People have told me before that I am good at encouraging and giving advice. Unfortunately, I can't seem to do the same for myself. I always tell people to look on the bright side. I always tell them to never give up. However, as much as I want to tell myself the same thing, I can never seem to let go of my pessimistic side. I always tend to see the worst in everything. I am always scared of so many unnecessary things. Sometimes being a pessimist can be a good thing. But most of the time, it hinders you from living a great life.

Rose Wholesale Giveaway

The holidays are always a huge celebration in my country. As early as September, Christmas songs have already been playing everywhere! Holiday sales in malls also become more frequent. But if you are a procrastinator like me, you'd rather go holiday shopping when the holiday season is in full bloom, like, December. But the thing with holiday shopping in December is that the malls are already packed with people and you only have a short amount of time left to think about what to shop for i.e. gifts, holiday outfits, etc. If you haven't found that perfect holiday dress or you are still left thinking what to give your loved ones, Rose Wholesale is kind enough to sponsor this giveaway! One lucky person will win a dress of his/her choice from the website. You can make this your holiday outfit or give it as a present for your loved one.

Cosmetics Haul from Seoul: Etude House, Clio Professional, Innisfree, and More

I actually thought I went crazy shopping for South Korean cosmetics in Seoul. But when I see these pictures, I don't think I did. Though spending US$200 in just 2 days of shopping in Seoul is something that I am not used to (so yeah, maybe I did go crazy shopping for cosmetics). I bought mostly from brands that are not available yet here in the Philippines because the prices of Etude House, Tony Moly, and The Face Shop don't differ much with the prices here in the Philippines (save for the mask sheets which was buy 10 get 10 for 9,500krw in Etude House, Myeongdong).

Where my S(e)oul is Part 2

Traveling for 4 days in Seoul isn't enough. I wish we had stayed there for a longer time but due to work commitments, all of us had to go home and then back to reality.

My observations/experiences in Seoul:
  • Their public transportation is really efficient and what I like most about the subway is that even if it is already rush hour, it is not too packed (unlike the MRT here in the Philippines). Also, the entire system itself is actually very efficient. They have stations in the most convenient locations and all lines are well connected.
  • I didn't think 5 degrees C would be too cold for me. I have experienced 6 degrees C before and I do know for a fact that it is cold. So I was like "nah, 5 degrees wouldn't be too much of a difference." Boy, was I wrong! It was soooo cold!
  • There was this vendor in Namdaemun who knows how to speak in Filipino! I was really amazed! He said he just study everyday and try to memorize as much words as he can. I am inspired to learn Korean, too!
  • Foreigners have asked for directions from me. I am not sure if it is because they think I look like a local or because I just look like I know the place really well (which I don't, by the way because it is my first time in Seoul).
  • The hotel had frosted glass doors in the hotel. I was taken aback by this because why would you have glass doors in a hotel room unless it is a motel, right? But it is a hotel, I swear! Good thing I am with  my family and I shared a room with only my sister.
  • Fried worms is a local street food. I saw tons of this in Namdaemun!
  • There are tons of cafes you can find all over Seoul. South Koreans must really love their coffee. Unfortunately, we weren't able to try any of the rows and rows of cafes we saw all over Seoul. We were too caught up with sight seeing to even bother to relax and chill for a few minutes over a cup of coffee. But I wish we did.
  • I promise to go back there next year! I must save up again!

Where My S(e)oul Is (Part 1)

I have always been fascinated with the culture of South Korea. I fell in love with it the moment i became aware of it. I love Kpop, I love Kdrama, I love Kcosmetics, I love Kfood...I actually even believe I was of Korean descent in my past life. I finally was able to satisfy this hallyu fascination and now, I can't wait to go back! I swear, Seoul, I will see you again soon! I have more places on my list that we weren't able to visit because it was just a very short 4-day trip. Quite palpably, I went crazy shopping for makeup in Myeongdong. There were so many stores selling makeup in every corner. Beauty bloggers, you will surely love this place! :)

Some observations of Seoul, South Korea:
  1. They stay on the right side when riding the escalator. If you are in a rush and you want to walk through the escalator, the left side is dedicated for you.
  2. They will really return to you anything that you leave behind. I accidentally left my handkerchief in a subway station and this Korean girl tapped me on the shoulder and was talking to me in Korean (which I obviously did not understand) and kindly returned it to me. The same thing happened to my sister. She accidentally left her T-money (subway card) in the subway and this Korean guy screamed Chogi yo at her to get her attention and returned her T-money to her. They're really kind!
  3. Most stores will not accept 100,000krw bills so make sure to have at most 50,000krw bills in your pocket. There is a bill changer at subway stations near the machines that reload the T-money where you can have your bills changed into 1,000krw bills.
  4. There are so many young couples everywhere! I swear, it was like the land of love. Everywhere I look, I find so many young couples hugging, kissing (yes, kissing on the lips! I saw them with my own eyes! And I thought South Korea has a conservative culture) and just being sweet with each other. It's not that I am too conservative for PDA. It's just that I really thought South Koreans are very conservative for this.
  5. They will not say excuse me if you are standing in the way and they want to pass by. They will just try to squeeze their body in the space available and will not care if they bump into you (I know this doesn't apply to all South Koreans but this happened to us a lot when we were shopping in Namdaemun. It may be our fault for standing in the way, though).
  6. Everything is so expensive! This is why they say you shouldn't convert to your own currency when shopping abroad because everything will come out to be very expensive. The cheapest meal I had was 5,000krw and that is about 204Php! Here in the Philippines, I can already have a fulfilling meal in just 50Php! I really wonder why food is so expensive in Seoul.
Hope you enjoy this photo diary (and hopefully my photography skills already improved?) :)

The Concept of Beauty

They say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. But, who is the beholder? That is something that I used to question a lot. The concept of beauty is something that is very vague and subjective. One may be beautiful in the eye of one but isn't truly beautiful in the eye of another. There is no universal concept of beauty. Therefore, as I believe, beauty is something that can never be defined. But of course, Merriam & Webster has its own definition (for reference purposes, perhaps?). So, what really is beauty?

According to the dictionary, beauty is defined as something that is pleasing or appealing to the senses. It is an adjective used to describe something or someone that the senses find pleasurable. I think the color pink is a beautiful color because it pleases my eyes. I can say that Kpop is a beautiful genre of music because it pleases my ears. However, note that the way I described the things I find beautiful uses possessive pronouns. That is because these are my preferences and nobody else's. Not everyone will have the same thoughts and express the same opinions as I do. We all have our own preferences and we all have our own form of judgement when it comes to beauty.

Quarter Life

They say that age is just a number. Youth and adulthood are determined by your disposition and outlook in life. I just turned 25 recently but I feel like I'm still 18 - not that I am immature or anything of the sort (though I do have my childish moments), but because I feel young and I want to live like I'm young. 25 is still pretty young though, right?

For  the past 25 years of my life, I can say that I have had so many ups and downs; so many controversies to overcome; and, so many battles to win. Despite having many troughs, I believe they have helped me become a better person because of the lessons I have learned from those experiences. And then there are those apexes which I will forever be grateful for allowing me to experience them.

I am only 25 and it is quite obvious that I have yet to experience more things. But one thing I learned from living for 25 years is that life will always be a series for apexes and troughs. One day you're at your peak and the next day you are at the bottom of the ocean. While it may be depressing to have those low points, it is where we become more mature, stronger, and more knowledgeable. Without these low points, we can never appreciate the high points and work harder to maintain it. Life will never be perfect and it will continue to challenge us and give us hurdles to overcome.

Short Post: Black and White

I see the world through colored lenses. My life has always been vibrant and filled with so much color. But sometimes, unexpected things can take away all the color that you see. In an instant, it can become black and white. But no matter the trials and the hardships that can make your life dull and miserable, we should take control and bring back the luster that your life should experience.

Product Review: Haruhada Hyaluronic Acid Cleansing Water

"It is necessary to remove all traces of dirt and makeup before going to bed." - That is what I have always thought.

But sometimes when you are so tired from work/school, you want to just head to bed and sleep immediately. And if you have very sensitive and acne-prone skin like I do, that is a no-no. Though you're so tired already, removing makeup is a must. I have always wanted to try the Bioderma Crealine H2O Cleanser because of all the great reviews I have heard. It is a non-rinse cleanser that will remove all traces of dirt and makeup. Great for lazy people like me, eh? But it is quite expensive and  as you all probably know by now, I am quite frugal when it comes to makeup (and I have an Asian cosmetics fetish?). So when my parents went to Malaysia last week I begged my mom to buy me the Haruhada Hyaluronic Acid Cleansing Water instead. It is supposed to work just like Bioderma: remove makeup and moisturize the skin at the same time.

Short Post: Punctuality

I believe in the saying that time is money. Time may not give you any currency but it will cost you a lot of money. For example, in my previous work, there is salary deduction for every succeeding minute after the grace period that you are late. Punctuality is an attitude that I am afraid to admit I lack. I am usually late and I always come up with the lamest excuses whenever I am. Sometimes they are true, but sometimes of course, they aren't (white lies). But ever since I started working, this is an attitude that I have been really trying hard to improve on. I try to sleep early so I can wake up early to avoid being late.

Rimless Glasses: The Most Lightweight and Comfortable

firmoo bloger
My mom has been a wearer of eyeglasses since she was in High School. She knows quite well that a pair of eyewear with the lightest and clearest lenses is very important to protect her eyes. Rimless frames gradually become people’s first choice in today’s optical fashion world because they are lightweight, comfortable and nearly invisible. Rimless glasses always seem to bring the wearer an impression that they do not wear glasses at all. Exclusive temples, with details on the flexible nose bridge, make eyeglasses reliable and as lightweight as you can imagine. If you wanna try and rich your wardrobe, you can try to get your first pair for free for a pair of rimless eyeglasses at

Loner vs. Independent

There is the saying that no man is an island. No man can live on his own. We need other people to produce our food. We need other people to do certain services for us. We need other people for social interaction. But sometimes, depending too much on other people gets to a point where you can't live on your own anymore. You draw energy from other people to help you survive. Some people become too clingy to the point where they can't function and do the things they want to do without the help of other people.

I, too, need other people to help with certain things. However, I am not the clingy type and I like doing things on my own. I mean, why should I allow other people determine the things that I want to do, right? If I want to go shopping, I go shopping alone. If I want to eat somewhere, I eat alone. I do a lot of things on my own and I am not really one to care. I have always liked the independence and liberty that comes with doing things on my own. But that does not mean I am a loner or an anti-social. I just don't depend on other people too much.

Create Stories Using Flowboard

The thing I like most about using the iPad is that there are so many useful applications to choose from. I hardly use it for games and entertainment purposes even if I do have some. I use it mainly for organizational and other purposes. One application that I am excited to share with all of you is Flowboard. It is a great app that allows you to create interactive stories and presentations to engage with your audience.

"Flowboard is the next generation presentation and storytelling platform for iPad. Flowboard allows anyone to create interactive publications with text, images, video and links that feel like mini apps on the iPad or play anywhere within the Flowboard web player."

Check out what I did on my very first Flowboard here.

This is surely a great way to create interactive content for your audience. It is a great app for business presentations, school presentations, or for simply marketing your brand. I will definitely use this app for other purposes in the future.

Online Shopping

This article was inspired by my recent online purchase...

I have been an avid online shopper since early 2000's when multiply suddenly became a venue for independent brands and budding entrepreneurs to introduce their product to a wider market. I have always fancied the convenience it is associated with. Aside from that, online stores almost always have cheaper products. Some of them are even cheaper than buying in Divisoria (plus better quality). But sometimes online shopping also has its disadvantages. So far, in my many years of shopping online I have had only great memories. That is until my recent online purchase.

July Must-Haves: Retro Glasses from Firmoo

bloger glasses
A pair of vintage eyeglasses is somewhat the bravest choice that you could try on this summer. There is a popular believe that retro look is the most classical one when you make good use of it. Vintage eyeglasses are mixed with the standard and subdued colors. So they could easily get highlighted during a nighttime or in a crowd. Excitingly, you can find your First pair for free for vintage eyeglasses at

Fashion Terminologies

Oftentimes, when we describe one article of clothing, many different words come up. When you Google it, when you read blogs, read articles on  magazines, or watch YouTube videos, you will be surprised at how people describe the same things differently. I am not really a believer of synonyms simply because they just all mean the same thing - one just sounds fancier and more erudite than the others; which is why I don't understand why some clothes need to have so many names. I mean, they all describe the same thing so why make everything confusing?

It is mostly because even if "English" is said to be the universal language, it is spoken differently in different parts of the world. Though syntax wise they are pretty much the same, terminologies used vary greatly. For example, eggplant and aubergine. They mean the same thing but both adapt different names in different English speaking nations. Because I often get confused about some terminologies in fashion, I decided to once and for all, create a list that will help me feel less confused. If you are as confused as I am, I hope you will find this article obliging.

Thrifting 101: The Art of Thrift Shopping

It’s been 8 years since I started thrift shopping.

I was only 16 then and with no money to spend for new clothes to school. We don’t wear uniform in my university and I only have 150Php ($4) budget everyday for food and transportation. I don’t have many clothes because I just came from a private catholic school that requires me to wear highly conservative uniform. My family wasn’t rich and my parents have always taught me to value frugality.

Fashion has always been an interest of mine but with my current financial situation, I am forced to look for other interests. Later did I realize that fashion need not always equate to money. It is all about how you style your clothes and how you carry them. The price tag isn’t supposed to be an issue. And then, I found the beauty of thrift shopping.

Short Post: Out of your Comfort Zone

Going out of your comfort zone is inevitable. At some point in our lives, we have to leave behind what we are used to for something different and something better. We have to do new things we are unfamiliar with to gain more knowledge and to become better persons.

It can be a scary thing; trying new things. That would mean leaving all your worries behind and facing new challenges with courage and tenacity. It means leaving your comfort zone and walking through unknown territory. It can be a scary thing. But these new things are what makes us stronger, wiser, tougher, and broadens our perspective.
