Craves and Sights: Mesa, Magnum Cafe and Local Edition

Christmas really is the season to get fat! And discover great restaurants, eat great meals, and make my wallet unhappy by eating so much. Here is another set of restaurants I tried the past few days.

I wasn't really planning on eating Filipino food but my friends were craving for rice. So when we saw this restaurant, we just settled for it. The interior wasn't all that jazzy and eye-catching but the use of indigenous materials and local symbols were I thought creative. The use of the straw hat as lighting, bamboo design for utensils, and wicker for the dining set were unique. I love the fact that they made the restaurant look like an old-fashioned Filipino house creating a more homey and welcoming feeling. I also noticed some foreigners dining here so the dishes they served must be really palatable. I know for a fact that Filipino cuisine isn't really globally renowned as some foreigners think our food are weird. But since a few foreigners were eating when we were there, the dishes might have some international twist to it but still retain that unique Filipino taste. And I was right, the dishes were what I would call modern Filipino cuisine. They are not the usual taste I am used to but they have a unique taste and presentation that would appeal to global consumers. I highly recommend this restaurant for anyone who wants to try Filipino cuisine but isn't quite ready yet for the authentic.

Marriage and Motherhood

Not to worry as I am not pregnant. I don't have any plans on becoming a mother anytime soon. But I do have friends who are and I could not be any more prouder. We just have different goals and different paths in life. I am already 26 and people have been telling me I should get married soon and start my own family. On top of that, my boyfriend and I have been together for almost 9 years now that everyone just expects us to tie the knot really soon. 2015? 2016? 2017? Who knows? As far as I am concerned, I am not ready to be tied down just yet and enter the mysterious world of motherhood.

Lace Wedding Dresses

Lace is probably the most common fabric used in wedding dresses. There is something very feminine and romantic about lace wedding dresses that attract brides making it the first choice of fabric. It is elegant, sophisticated, and exudes class. You can show off some skin without looking too revealing. Dressestylist offers a wide range of wedding dresses fitted with lace details brides-to-be can choose from. Short dresses, long gowns, off the shoulder, strapless – they have all sorts of styles to choose from.

Styling Lace Wedding Dresses
One of the biggest fears of wearing a lace dress is styling it. Lace is a very delicate fabric that the wrong choice of accessories can ruin the entire dress. You need to choose your jewellery, handbag, and shoes wisely. Make sure there are no spikes or anything sharp on your accessories. These can potentially rip the lace fabric and create a disaster. It is more advisable to wear earrings or a headpiece instead of a necklace when wearing a lace dress as the chain of the necklace can get stuck in the lace which can also potentially rip the fabric. Necklaces are more suitable for strapless lace dresses or low necklines.

The Right Length
With lace wedding dresses, another important consideration is the length. Short lace dresses are advisable for shorter women to avoid getting caught up in the train. As mentioned above, lace is very delicate and can easily rip. When you trip on your lace wedding dress, there is a high possibility that it can rip. But if you really want a long lace dress, make sure your shoes are high enough – but comfortable still – that you can avoid tripping on your dress. Longer lace dresses are more advisable for taller women.

Weight and Material
Lace comes in different forms and materials. There are heavier lace fabrics which are more durable and there are also lighter lace fabrics which are more delicate. While the denser and more durable lace material are good, it can weigh your body down and make walking down the aisle unbearable. Choose a good, lightweight lace fabric that is easy to walk in and comfortable. It is better to avoid lace dresses covered in sequins, beads, and pearls as it adds more weight. A simple, lightweight fabric is good enough.

Lacewedding dresses are truly the best option for wedding dresses. If you are searching for the perfect wedding dress made of lace materials, dressestylist has a wide array to choose from.

Craves and Sights: Leona's Art Restaurant, Momo Cafe, and Endless Summer Cafe

There are just too many restaurants to try out every week! Needless to say I've been pigging out again. Here area some of the restaurants I've tried over the past few weeks:

Leona Art Restaurant
This has definitely become one of my favorite restaurants. Not only do they serve delicious meals but they also have a quirky interior. It is a great place to hangout with friends you haven't seen for a long time. The space is quiet - perfect for long chats over great food. I've been here twice and I can say I will come back for more.

Beach Wedding Dresses

There is nothing fancier and more romantic than a beach wedding. Imagine the sound of the ocean crashing through the sand, the beautiful sunset as your backdrop, and the warm beach breeze to amplify the ambiance – it would be the perfect wedding for many people. But the problem with beach weddings is that it can be very challenging to find the right outfit not only for the bride and groom but also for the entourage. Fortunately Dressestylist recognizes this challenge. They have a selection of beach wedding dresses that are the perfect dress to wear on your beach wedding.

Short-Length Dresses
Wearing a short dress is probably the best option for a beach wedding. It will make walking on the sand easier. Walking with a long trail on the beach may sound romantic and dreamy but in reality this is your worst nightmare. Sand can potentially damage your dress especially if it is made of delicate fabric like chiffon and lace. Sand trapped in your dress will also look unpleasant in pictures. Aside from the sand, your second enemy would be the ocean. Yes, it is nice and relaxing to hear on the background but in reality, it can make walking on the beach a dread. It will make your dress heavier and it will attract sand to stick on your dress. Dressestylist has a lot of short-length dress options that retains the delicateness, romance, and femininity of a wedding dress. Here are some:

Breathable and Durable Fabric
Though short-dresses are more practical for a beach wedding, there are still some women who would prefer the traditional long wedding dress. If you are one of those, a breathable and durable fabric would be your best option. There are many other types of fabric you can choose from such as satin and silk which are not as water-absorbent and sand-attractive than chiffon and lace. However, such fabrics may be too thick to wear for a hot and humid beach wedding so make sure to choose the right thickness. Charmeuse is also a good fabric option. Dressestylist also has a wide range of wedding dresses made of breathable and durable fabric. Here are some:

A beach wedding is a dream-come-true for many women. It is the most romantic setting for a wedding. But the most challenging part is finding the right dress for the bride and the entourage. Worry no more as Dressestylist has a wide array of beach wedding dresses you can choose from that are perfect to wear for  beach wedding.

Vintage Wedding Dresses

There is something very feminine and romantic about a vintage wedding dress. They just look more intricate and really emphasize a woman’s body. Most vintage wedding dresses are also made of luxurious fabric and fragile lace or chiffon which makes it all the more romantic and sentimental. If you are a vintage lover or simply dream of owning a vintagewedding dress for its delicate details and intricacies, Dressestylist has a wide range it can offer. Here are other more reasons why you should choose a vintage wedding dress:

Unique Style
These days, you will hardly find a wedding dress style similar to what your mother or grandmother wore on their wedding day. Sure, it may have some similarities but of course, designers are well aware that they have to update the look and make it more modern to appeal to a wider range of customers. But there will always be a market for vintage styles. It may be niche marketing but still, there is a demand for vintage wedding dresses. Why? Because some brides prefer the uniqueness of it. Since vintage styles are no longer on the racks of modern designers which more people have access to, you can be assured you will look unique on your wedding day.

      Helping the environment
There is a growing concern nowadays to making life greener and lessening carbon footprint. Wearing something vintage is actually recycling old clothes. You can help lessen cutting of trees to get the raw materials for creating a wedding dress. You also lessen your carbon footprint by lessening the amount of tress cut and the amount of energy expenditure in creating clothes. Help create a greener and cleaner environment by wearing vintage wedding dresses.

      Save money
Another reason to love vintage wedding dresses is it allows you to save money. There is no production cost and the fact that you will be wearing something used makes it cheaper than purchasing a new wedding dress. Vintage wedding dresses from Dressestylist range from as low as 139.39GBP for a simple but elegant wedding dress to 359.49GBP for a flamboyant wedding dress. They have a wide selection of designs to choose from.

Vintage wedding dresses are a great option for brides-to-be who want a unique style and design, to help the environment, and save money. Dressestylist is a great source for such wedding dresses as they offer a wide range.

Random People

Sometimes I enjoy meeting random people. It flatters me when random people come up to me and talk to me. I enjoy hearing their stories and I find it heart-warming when they give me advice about life. This is probably one of the reasons why I enjoy that part of my job that I have to deal with people, hear their stories, and give them advice. I find a sense of fulfillment and satisfaction in doing that.

But there are also times when I get freaked out by random people who approach me. Sometimes there is something with the way people approach you that comes off as creepy and unbecoming.

Product Review: Juju Aquamoist Whity Bihacon Whitening Milk

I have always admired Japanese and Korean women with milky white and porcelain-like skin. I think both have the best skin in the world. Though I can say I have fair and milky-white complexion, I lack the latter – I don’t have porcelain-like skin. I struggled with acne as an adolescent up to my early twenties. The result – scarred and pigmented skin. Now, I am struggling to lighten hyperpigmentation and am trying to save money to go to the dermatologist to heal the scar.
Hyperpigmentation is easier to deal with than acne scarring. I have a few indented acne scars especially on my temples and they are quite ugly. I don’t think there is a product in the market that is formulated to raise indented scars. The only solution I can think of is going to the dermatologist for a procedure. But with hyperpigmentation, there are so many products out there that can help. One that I recently tried is the Whity Bihacon Whitening Milk from Juju Aquamoist.

Product Review: Lush Superbalm

I don’t really suffer much from dandruff but I still do get those moments. It is hell when my scalp starts to itch and when I scratch white flakes just fly all over the place. It is embarrassing and annoying. I hate it when this happens. Product build-up or greasy hair could be the culprit. I tried Nizoral, Clear, and even a dermatologist-formulated anti-dandruff shampoo but without much luck. These products were only able to help relieve the itchiness and control the flakiness for a short period of time. And worse, these products were too harsh for my hair leaving it drier than it already is. The only anti-dandruff product that works well with my hair is Head & Shoulders but there are still times when my scalp flakes and itches – probably because of product build-up as I have been using this shampoo for years now (I don’t switch shampoos anymore because I am allergic to most of them).

Hallyu Corner: SM Entertainment and Their Many Scandals

It is not a secret that the world of Kpop is filled with scandals. Lawsuits are being filed left and right, idols withdrawing their membership because the life of a Kpop star is just too much to handle – both have become ordinary. One particular company that is always in the limelight of scandals is SM Entertainment. Though they are known as one of the big three companies in Kpop, SM is also known as the most scandalous. It all started with TVXQ who were at the top of their game when suddenly three members, now known as JYJ, filed a lawsuit to end their contract. The three members won the lawsuit and are now doing their own promotions. And then Hangeng from Super Junior did the same. And this year it was two EXO members Kris and Luhan. Jessica from Girl’s Generation was also rumoured to be kicked out. What is really happening behind the curtains, behind the glitz and glamour of being a Kpop star? There is definitely more going on that the public are unaware of.

Craves and Sights: Woo Galbi, Gigi Cafe/Shelter, Cafe Mesa

And so I pigged out again.

I just can't seem to stop my cravings that I have to eat at different restaurants all the time. As much as I would like to save money and spend less on food (as bulk of my meager monthly salary goes to food), I couldn't help it. My insatiable human cravings are far more powerful than my EQ. So here goes yet another set of restaurants I have tried over the past few weeks.

Address: Level 6, Shangri-La Plaza, Ortigas Center, Mandaluyong City

You know how I love everything Korean, right? Food is just one of the many things I love about Korea. Though I don't think Woo Galbi is actually authentic, but I must say that their bibimbap and jjampong tasted really good. We had the bibimbap with bulgogi sauce and my mouth literally went berserk secreting so much saliva. It was that good! We also ordered it with red rice for a healthier version. The jjampong was equally mouth-watering. The noodles were soft and they had so much ingredients! The shrimps were huge and the soup was not that spicy. Their servings are for sharing unless your stomach can eat for two.

Morning Habits to Boost Energy

Waking up early everyday can be a drag. I have to wake up at around 4:30 every day just to get to work. Sometimes I feel vexed especially when I had a long day before and was exhausted. I hate waking up early as I will feel sluggish and lethargic. I will be unproductive and grumpy most of the time. And those are attitudes of an unhealthy employee. Those are attitudes of an unhappy worker. So over the past few months, I’ve been trying some habits that will help boost my energy and display a positive disposition. I can say that my overall mood has improved – though I am still grumpy at work sometimes, but due to some things that really give me permission to be grumpy. I feel happier and more productive. A happier, more productive and positive colleague helps make the workplace a tenfold better place to work in.

6 Things I Do to Stay Happy

Hat: Peaches on Top | Necklace and Boots: Forever 21
Dress: Gap | Watch: Swatch | Bag: from mom

While happiness may be a vague and intuitive word, it is a feeling that I think we all understand. When we see people smile, we know they are happy. When we hear people laugh, we know they are happy. It may not be eternal happiness but they were happy for a fleeting moment. We understood the emotion behind the action.

I can't say I am the happiest person in the world because as a human, I covet many mundane things. I want more clothes. I want designer makeup, bags, and shoes. I want a huge house and luxury car. Though I know these monetary things can only give me ephemeral happiness, I want them still. I guess it is very human of me to want what the world has to offer. I am able to shop for clothes more often than some people and gain temporary satisfaction/happiness but in the end I am still unhappy. Why? Because I will want more later on. It is a never ending cycle that we, humans, get into. We succumb to monetary temptations and when we finally get it, we end up wanting more; insatiable.

But happiness should not be dependent on such things. There is so much more to this world than luxury brands and a mansion. I still believe that people can be happy even if they don't have money. Happiness is a choice. You can choose to be happy even if you have nothing or choose to be miserable. Life may be difficult and challenging at times but that shouldn't stop you from living a happy life.

Craves and Sights: Historic Camalig, Xtremely Xpresso, Croque Cafe + Bakery

A good ambiance can make the food taste a hundred times better. Some people might disagree with me but I find the visuals helpful in developing the taste of the food and in making the experience of eating more memorable. I always enjoy my food better when I eat at restaurants with the same appealing and appetizing interiors.

New restaurants are popping up here and there like mushrooms. I often hear new restaurants opening up almost every week! You can just imagine the "restaurants-to-try" list that I have! I have a ton and I am only just beginning my adventure.

Food will always have a huge place in my heart - and in my stomach. So I have started this adventure where I want to try new and quirky - or eccentric - restaurants. Well, most of these aren't new, actually. But they are new to me so I hope you enjoy the few restaurants I have tried over the past few weeks and I intend to make this a weekly habit. Hooray for good food and lovely ambiance!

Short Post: Uninspired

Uninspired is a word I try to forget in my vocabulary. It is a word that elicits negative vibes and makes you unmotivated to go on with your day. As hard as I may try to forget, there will always be moments that make you uninspired. You don’t have the energy to live. You don’t want to go to work. Your mind afloat a different universe not even parallel to where you are standing. It is a struggle to go on with your day when you feel uninspired. It hinders productivity and thwarts efficiency. In the end, everything piles up, you become stressed, and you become even more uninspired with your life.

Hallyu Corner: Learning 한국어

Top: Forever 21 | Skirt: Ever New | Wedges: S.O. Fab!
Hat: Peaches on Top | Bracelets: random

My fascination for South Korea is infinite that even learning their language has become a requisite for me. Every time I watch Korean Dramas of listen to Kpop I am trying to pick up as many words as I can. I learned some of the Korean words I know from doing that. But of course, self studying isn't as reliable as being taught in school. I learned in Korean class so I can learn how to write and understand the language better. Now that module 1 is over, I can say my knowledge has increased to about 20%. I am determined to make that 100% so I can travel to Korea on my own and not be afraid to get lost.

30 Before 30

Hat: SM Dept. Store | Shirt: from mom | Skirt: Topshop
Wedges and Bag: thrifted | Bracelet: Forever 21

Being in your 20's is probably the most fun, exciting, and adventurous phase in anyone's life. So while you're at it, enjoy, have fun and do the things that you want to do.

When I was a teenager, I thought being in your 20's and being employed are the equivalent of adulthood. I thought that once you get to experience what they call as real life, it will make you more mature and wiser. Now that I am in my 20's and employed, my thoughts were altered. Just because you are working doesn't mean you are now an adult. Yes, it teaches you how to become more responsible but not everyone really becomes responsible. Yes, it gives you more wisdom but not everyone lives by the wisdom they learn. Being in your 20's and working does not mean you become an adult. It is a phase in life that merely teaches you how to become an adult. It is that decade when you are allowed to be crazy and just enjoy life while at the same time learning things about life so when you do become an adult, you know better. It is only a few more years before I leave this decade and then I have to force myself to become an adult. So while I am still at it, I will have fun and let myself go crazy.

5 Ways to Cut Expenditure so you can Travel

Top: Terranova | Skirt: SM Department Store | Sandals: Zara

I often find myself daydreaming of my next destination. The change in environment, the culture you learn, and the people you get to interact with excite me. I don’t often go abroad due to time and financial constraints but I am really saving up for it so that someday, in the near future, I will be able to set foot in a different continent.

Sunshine Blogger Award

[Hat: Peaches on Top | Top: Forever 21 | Shorts: Jellybean | Sandals: Zara]

I haven't done any "blogger award" post for years! I think of all the blogger awards passed on to me, I was only able to post one - which you can read here. I haven't written anything personal for the past few months. All you can read on my blog are about beauty, travel and my Kpop addiction. I did mention on this post that I will do a little reformatting on this blog which is why I have included such topics but I do miss doing something personal. Factual as this tag may be but the questions really answer to my personal life. I am not going to tag other bloggers (sorry Gellie!) as what the original tag requires me to do because I believe all of you bring sunshine to the blogging world. But I would like to encourage anyone or everyone reading this to also do it! And if you ever do, please leave a link in the comment box as I would be happy to read them.

Battle of the BB Creams 2

Since I last did a collective review of BB Creams (read part 1 here), I have tried many other BB Cream brands. Some of them I really loved, some are okay, and some I don't recommend at all. Most of the brands I will review in this post are different from the ones I already reviewed with the exception of one, as I was really impressed with the brand hoping that another variant would suit my skin type better. Palpably, most of the brands featured are Korean brands with one Japanese brand. I really hope to get my hands on some Japanese brands as well (any recommendations?).

Just to give you a brief background, I have really oily skin - not just the T-zone but my entire face. I am also really sensitive to products and I easily breakout. I am pale and I also have a lot of acne scars. So my review will be based on my skin type, tone, and overall condition.
