Hallyu Corner: Girl Groups

Long gone are the days when KPop girl groups are cute, bubbly, sweet and innocent. If you are a follower of KPop or simply an occasional and casual listener, you may have noticed that body and sex appeal have become their selling point these days. When Girls' Generation first debuted, I found them to be really cute and fun. Gee was a very colorful and innocent video. But as years went by, they tried experimenting with their style and I found them trying to be sexy and fierce. I am not saying that it is a bad thing. I mean, sexiness really sell. And other than that, I found their music to be more of my taste with the sexier and fiercer image.

And I am one of those who find this sexy image captivating. Yes, I honestly admit that I started liking more girl groups with this image.

I am not perverting or anything like that. It's just that I find their music more eargasmic, more memorable, and more suitable for the kind of music I'm into with this sexy and fierce style. Just take this song for instance:

This is the song that made me fall in-love with Sistar and is now thus one of my favorite girl groups. They do have the body and the moves to be sexy and fierce. And with every move and note they hit, I am even more drawn. I guess with the changing environment, KPop has to keep up so as not to be forgotten.

There are still groups though that do not want to enter this kind of genre. A-Pink is one of those that kept the bubbly, cute, sweet, and innocent image and I must say, they have done really well. They may be too sugar-y sweet for some, but they are one of the most popular KPop girl groups. Take a look at this:

So, yeah, it is not all the time that sex and sex appeal sell (though I think they sell more). It's just nice to see a diversity in KPop so we get to hear various melodies and genres.
