B is for Beauty and Brains

Dress: Dresslink | Hat: SM Dept. Store | Scarf: gifted | Belt: Jellybean
Watch: Swatch | Boots: from Korea | Socks: Forever 21 | Clutch: Nine West
Lips: 3CE Matte Lipstick

Ah, the long debated concept of beauty and brains. Can they really coexist? Can someone so beautiful be gifted with intelligence as well? Can someone so intelligent have the physical appearance that can "launch a thousand ships"? I guess it depends on how you interpret both concepts. As they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and intelligence can never be measured.

Travelogue: Kyoto, Japan (Kinkaku-ji Temple / Golden Pavilion)

Oh Japan, you didn't fail in capturing my heart! I was smitten even when I haven't set foot on your soil. And now that I have, I fell even more in-love with you. If only I can take you home I would so I could come visit you whenever I want. I wasn't able to fully see you so expect me there again soon.

Hallyu Corner: Banila Co.

It has been a while since I did a "Hallyu Corner" post. I rekindled my love for anime and everything related to Japan because of my trip to Osaka that everything related to South Korea was pushed and shoved. Sorry, South Korea. But one thing I will always remember about loving South Korea is their skincare and makeup items. I will always be a fan. And recently, as I was strolling around Glorietta mall, I stumbled upon one of my all-time favorite brands, Banila Co. I was stunned to see a pop-up store in the middle of the mall. Why did I not even hear the brand is coming to town? I was at a loss for words. Naturally, I spent a good amount of time trying things out and ended up getting 2 products. The Prime Primer Classic Matte in Green and Prime Primer Finish Powder are staples in my makeup collection and now I think I have added 2 more that I will keep on repurchasing.

Travelogue: Kyoto, Japan (Tenryu-ji Temple and Arashiyama Bamboo Grove)

When my mom asked me what my favourite part of our Japan trip was, I non-hesitantly answered Kyoto.

Happy Holidays

Top: Dresslink | Skirt: SM Dept. Store | Watch: Swatch

Christmas and New Year are my favorite holidays of the year. Our office is closed for a little over a week and everything just feels so festive. I love the colder weather that calls for sweaters and layering sometimes. I love the Christmas songs playing everywhere. I love the lights and decors displayed everywhere. I also love all the parties and reunions I get to attend to. Everything feels happy during these times of the year. If only we get to celebrate them all year round, I would be one happy human being.

Travelogue: Shitennoji Temple

When in Japan visiting any of their many temples is a must. There are so many different temples you can find all over Japan and each has its own God and purpose. In Osaka my mom and I decided to make a trip to Shitennoji Temple as it is one of the top ten places that many websites has recommended to visit. Like in the case of Osaka Castle, I had so many expectations for this temple. I also had so many images of it flashing in my head  as we were walking from the train station to the temple grounds. I was ecstatic when were walking on the side walk and looking for the entrance as from afar it looks majestic and grandiose inside. I was appalled when we entered. The entrance to the temple is a huge flea market and most of the structures inside the temple are under construction. It was not what I had in mind. It is still charming even with the few structures that I was allowed to see but the flea market was just out of place in my opinion. It could be just the time when we were there, I don't know. My mom liked it but I didn't. I feel like the flea market took the charm and authenticity of the temple away. Some people may like it just like my mom but my purpose for going there is to see the temple as it is - no markets and no obstructions to the beauty of the structure (one of the reasons why Kyoto was my favorite part of this trip). I don't recommend going to this temple if you aren't a fan of flea markets. There are so many other temples you can go to especially in Kyoto. But if you are, you will find treasures.

Product Review: Touch in Sol Pang Pang Sun Cutting Powder SPF 45 PA++

One of the reasons why I like BB creams is because I don't have to put moisturizer and sunblock anymore. It has significantly reduced the amount of products I have to slather my face with and it decreased the amount of time I need every morning. I love multi-purpose products like BB creams because less amount of products to use means more savings and the less amount of time it takes for me to prep myself for work means more time for me to sleep. On days when I want to let my skin breathe and don't want to put makeup on I just use my day moisturizer and a powder that has SPF. I prefer using powders with SPF than using sunblock because I find the latter a bit heavy on my skin and most of the sunblock I've used before broke me out (except for the Biore sunblock which I have only recently started using - and love!). They also tend to make my skin super oily. So when I saw the Touch in Sol Pang Pang Sun Cutting powder I just had to get it.

Travelogue: Osaka Castle

It is every little girl's dream to become a princess. I remember when I was in kindergarten, we had a play about Snow White. I have fair skin so I expected I would be chose for the lead role. However, I played a minor, insignificant, funny role instead: I was a tree. I remember vividly how embarrassed and disappointed I was. I wanted to be Snow White. I wanted to be a princess. Twenty years later, my dream of becoming a princess never came true but I still dream that one of these days I will live the life of a princess even for just a fleeting moment. Because of that "princess" desire I was ecstatic to visit Osaka Castle. I had really high expectations for this castle. I was imagining it to be grandiose and flamboyant - just a like a real Japanese castle. I was expecting to see tatami mats and sliding doors separating the hallways and rooms. I was expecting to see a Japanese garden outside. I had so many images playing in my head of how this castle will look like. I was excited to feel like a princess. But honestly, going here was a disappointment. The castle is just one big museum.

Product Review: Urban Decay De-Slick Makeup Setting Spray (Oil Control)

Living in a humid, tropical country I have yet to master the art of controlling my skin's sebum production. I am one of those unfortunate people who has difficulty having their makeup stay on their face for the whole day. I am one of the unlucky people who has excessive sebum production that my face tends to look like a deep fryer by midday. I have tried various sebum control powders and some really work. But I am yet to find the holy grail product that will be able to control my skin's oiliness for the whole day.

A is for Arrogance

Dress: SM Dept Store | Shoes: Call It Spring | Bag: from Bangkok
Necklace: Forever 21 | Watch: Swatch | Lips: Tarte Amazonian Lip Butter Coral Blossom

Everyday we meet people overflowing with arrogance. Call yourself lucky (and blessed!) if you don't encounter arrogant people on a daily basis. I am not saying I am holy and humble because I am definitely not. I also have moments when I become cocky and just plain conceited. But I don't let those moments get in my head. I may be arrogant at times but I know how to level myself and when I should stop. I just don't understand why some people feel like they're floating in the air and think of themselves as above everyone else. I just don't get it.

Travelogue: Osaka Museum of Housing and Living

Top: from Bangkok | Skirt: Thrifted | Sandals: Call It Spring | Bracelets: Bershka

When I was young, I had this certain fascination with everything Japanese. My sister and I bought this Japanese-English dictionary and would try to decipher our favorite anime songs using that dictionary. I would even draw myself (in anime form looking like Card Captor Sakura) wearing a kimono with raining cherry blossoms in the background. I would even daydream of me living in a traditional Japanese house and Himura Kenshin would await me inside. Such are the thoughts of a secret otaku. So when the opportunity came for me to visit Japan I made a note to myself that I shall be able to wear a kimono and visit a traditional Japanese house. I was able to do both but on separate occasions.

Hate and Nothingness

Negative emotions suck the life out of me. Lately I've been feeling tired and lethargic because of a certain someone I have to work with who I really don't want to work with. I've been feeling infuriated and annoyed whenever I see this certain person. He is the most incompetent and dishonest person I have encountered in my entire life. I don't want to deal with him. I don't want to see him. I don't want to interact with him. But I am left with little choice. We work in a very small team and it is inevitable for us to work together. I may hate him and I may not want to work with him but our circumstances do not allow us to separate. Either I quit or he quits. The latter is like saying pigs can fly. The former is the only little option I have. But then again, why should I? He may be a person I don't want to work with but I can't let such a thing ruin my plans for the future. I cannot let this person dictate how I live my life. I just need to calm myself and keep in mind not to let this person affect my life.

Product Review: Biore UV Perfect Bright Milk SPF 50 PA++

It is common knowledge that wearing sunscreen or any face products that has SPF (such as BB creams and CC creams) is important. Especially these days when the ozone layer is thinning and more harmful UV rays produced by the sun can penetrate through the earth, wearing sunscreen or the likes should be done religiously. If you don't wan to end up with skin cancer, early wrinkle formation, development of sun spots and hyperpgmentation, you should make it a habit to wear sunscreen and/or similar products.

Travelogue: Universal Studios Japan (Wonderland, Amity Village, Wharf)

I promise this is going to be the last of my Universal Studios Japan posts. I had a really great time here and I do wish to go back (not as much as I want to go back to Kyoto though). We weren't able to experience the Biohazard attraction which I am pretty sure is worth the hours of queue so I do hope there is a next time.

I am already 27 years old but going to amusement/theme parks never gets old for me. When I travel, one of the places I always put in our itinerary is an amusement/theme park. There is something about these places that reaches to my inner child. Even my mom had a wonderful time here so it shows that such places transcends all demographics. Whether you are a child or a child-at-heart, going to an amusement/theme park will always be worthwhile. When you find yourself going to Osaka, make sure to include Universal Studios Japan in your itinerary and I guarantee a memorable experience not just for kids but for adults as well.

Cold Weather Vacation: Dresslink Wishlist

One of the reasons why I love traveling is because of the weather. Some people dream of tropical climate all year round but when you’ve lived in a tropical country your entire life, this climate becomes dreary. Sometimes I live in a place where I can experience 4 seasons. I love cold temperature and I enjoy forested areas. I wish for sweater-weather and layering most of the time. I guess humans really are insatiable; we crave for what we don’t have and find it difficult to appreciate what we have. Though we do have elevated areas here where we can experience cold temperature, the overall feel is different when you go to a different country. This is exactly why I am so excited for my next travel. I will not go too far and the country does not experience snow. But it is a place that is definitely cooler than the Philippines.

Travelogue: Universal Studios Japan (Hollywood and New York)

Sunglasses: Jellybean | Dress: Topshop | Sneakers: Stradivarius
Hairbow: Forever 21 | Tote bag: from KL

I will segregate my Universal Studios Japan posts according to sections inside the theme park. I took so much photos that one blog post is not enough for all of it. I tried to narrow it down to a few pictures but it's just too difficult to choose! I went back to being a 5-year-old wandering around the theme park wide-eyed. Everything about the theme park is picture-worthy: the infrastructure, the food, the items, the people. It was a struggle to stop from continuously clicking my camera.

Product Review: Touch in Sol Corean Complexion Cream (CC Cream)

I am one of the millions of women out there who are religious users of BB creams. Ever since I learned about them, I have always wanted to get my hands on this holy grail product. The first one I ever tried was a sample from Missha (M Perfect Cover) and I fell in-love. It was that good that even when at the time I was a poor college student, I saved my allowance just to buy a bottle. Alas, my allowance wasn't enough so I opted for the Maybelline BB cream. It was super inexpensive and did a decent job. Throughout the years of my discover and journey with BB creams, so many other products that claim to be even better than BB creams came sprouting here and there. CC creams were all the rage a couple or so years ago. And then DD creams also made an appearance to the market which only a handful were able to pick up. I have never tried the latter and I don't know really know what brands make them and where I can get them. But because many people prefer CC creams over BB creams and the saleslady at Banila Co was even telling me their CC cream is their top selling product, my curiosity ballooned and I thought I just had to get one. While shopping in Sasa KLCC Suria, I stumbled upon this Korean brand I was not very familiar with. I thought the packaging was gorgeous and it wasn't that expensive. Most of the time, when I wan to try a brand out I always go for either a lip product or a face product. The packaging of the CC cream caught my attention the most so I decided to try it. I can't say CC creams are better than BB creams with just this one alone but I can say that I do like CC creams on days when you don't want coverage and want to let your skin breath but you still want the benefits of BB creams.

Travelogue: Universal Studios Japan (Wizarding World of Harry Potter)

As a member of the generation who grew up with Harry Potter, going to Universal Studios was a dream come true. Actually, this entire trip is a fulfillment of a childhood dream. I was captivated by Japan mostly because of anime and manga but I was even more excited to visit the country when the Wizarding World of Harry Potter came alive. Everything about this trip is a manifestation of all my dreams. Now I can say that dreams really do come true.

Blogger Problem #4: The Pose

Top: Forme | Pants: Mango | Shoes: Melissa | Bag: Forever 21
Lips: Tarte Amazonian Lip Butter in Watermelon

When you have been blogging for a long time, you find yourself going blank the next time you face a camera. You just don't know what to do anymore. If you aren't wearing too many accessories or if you don't have anything around you that you can use a props, you are left with no choice but to keep on repeating poses. This may not bother some of you as you try to look as natural in pictures as you possibly can but for those who are camera-conscious like me, you resort to your "tried-and-tested" poses again and again and again. This then makes your pictures look the same. You may be wearing something different but you end up looking like all your other pictures because you are doing the same pose. The location might have changed but the overall appeal of the photos are the same.

Travelogue: Petronas Towers and Merdeka Square

This is going to be the finale entry of my Kuala Lumpur trip. There are so many things I will forever keep with me from this trip. Kuala Lumpur is similar to Manila in so many ways but it is also ten times more awesome in so many ways. Kuala Lumpur is a city that will not immediately come to my mind when I think of traveling around Asia but going there and experiencing most of what it has to offer is truly one for the books and something that I will always remember. It could be because I enjoyed my company. But it is most definitely because of the people we encountered (hello to our lovely airbnb host Shin) and the experiences it has to offer. I enjoyed every moment of my trip and every penny spent was worth it.

Impulse Shopping

Bag: Furla | Dress: Dresslink | Shoes: CMG | Wacth: Anne Klein

When you are faced with a mountain of sale items, you can’t help but take out your credit card and rush to each piece that catches your attention. It is a race against time and a race against other people. You need fast hands and grab as many items as you can. When you reach the counter your jaw drops to the floor because you can’t believe how much you’ve spent. But then you tell yourself, you don’t care and that is fine because you will never have another chance to buy all of the things you just bought. It is on sale now so this is your only chance. You allow the cashier to swipe your credit card. You grab the charge slip from the cashier and quickly sign. And then you leave the shop with bags full of assortments (or junk) and a satisfied smile. And when you receive your credit card bill you can’t help but drop to the floor, slouch your shoulders and weep over the huge amount of debt you owe the bank. You said you would save as much as 50% of your monthly salary but that will now go straight to paying for your bill. You said you want to travel to Europe and been trying to save money for that trip but that will not happen anymore because the money you saved will now go to paying your bill.

Monster Attitude

Top and Undershirt: Forever 21 | Skirt: Stradivarius | Scarf: Thrifted
Hat: Peaches on Top | Lunchbox: Harajuku Lovers | Socks: H&M | Boots: from Korea

Lately I find myself feeling guilty and embarrassed. I’ve become a monster. I wasn’t like this before and I am starting to think where I went wrong for me to become like this. I am grumpy all the time. I shout at people. I curse. I’ve become a person who starts a fight for no reason at all. I step on people. I’ve turned into a monster. But my problem is, even if I try to be more positive and push myself to have a happier disposition, I seem to fail. I can’t do it. The littlest things irritate me. I find fault in just about everything. I feel like I am the only person who does things right and everyone around me is useless. I don’t know why but I’ve become a person who I never imagined I will become. I’ve become a person who I never wanted to be. Now I start to wonder, how did I end up becoming like this? What did other people do to make me behave like a monster? Why did I allow myself to become like this? I am not happy at all – definitely.

Travelogue: KL City Gallery

Sunglasses: Aldo | Dress: Topshop | Socks: H&M | Rubber Shoes: Adidas
Bag: from KL | Silver Dream Catcher Necklace: from Canada

We did not intend to pay a visit to KL City Gallery but we ended up doing so because we were looking for a place to cool down. It was scorching hot that day in Kuala Lumpur and after waiting for our turn to take a picture with the "I (heart) KL" sign, we could not resist the cool air conditioning offered by the gallery. We did not regret doing so. It may be an accident but we were glad we paid a visit. No pun intended but there was an admission fee for the gallery. If I remember correctly it was 20MR which then entitles you to 5RM cash voucher you can use in the gallery cafe. It was a good deal considering gallery cafes are usually expensive and because their sweets are delectable. We were also lucky to get a glimpse of the batik exhibit. My friend and I are both fond of this traditional print/pattern of Malaysia because of their intricacy and colorful detail. This is a highly recommended attraction within Merdeka Square. Getting there is also fairly easy. You can hop on the red line bus and get off at Masjid Negara then walk for about 5-10 minutes. Or you can get off at Dayabumi stop then cross the street. And the best thing about using this Go-KL bus is that it is free of charge!

Short Post: The Wrong Outfit

Top: Forme | Skirt, Earrings and Bag: Forever 21 | Shoes: VNC
Watch: Swatch | Snoopy Necklace: Universal Studios Japan

A colleague commented when she saw me wearing this outfit that I am wearing the wrong outfit. With the erratic weather of the Philippines lately, wearing an outfit that screams spring seems out of place. I just laughed and brushed it of. Not that I felt offended or anything like that; I just thought I don't really care. Rain or shine, outfits that are girly, feminine, spring/summer fashion is my personal style and I will rock it whenever I want. And besides, the weather in my country is erratic all year round; you can never guess when it is going to rain and thunderstorms so when else can I wear outfits like these but everyday, right?

Osaka, Japan Haul

If you follow me on Instagram, you would know that I recently went on vacation to Osaka, Japan. I really wanted to go to Tokyo and it has been my dream destination since I was little. My mom and I went to Osaka instead because we couldn't get a flight to Tokyo that is within our budget for airfare on the day that we wanted to go so we opted for Osaka instead. I fell in-love! Now I remember why Japan has been my dream destination. It was beautiful, organized, and just a lovely place. 4 days is not enough. I will definitely go back to Japan and it will be my goal next year to go to Tokyo.

I will be posting about the places we visited in the coming days. In the meantime, I do hope you enjoy this haul video. I thought filming a video would be easier than taking pictures because of the many small items I bought.

Stay tuned for part 2!

Travelogue: Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM)

After visiting Batu Caves we decided to go to Forest Research Institute Malaysia. If you have been reading my blog, you know that I used to favor mountains and forests over beaches. It was only recently that I started to fancy beaches than mountains. Anyway, we thought the area would be a fantastic location to take pictures and also would be a nice sort of getaway as it looks promising of fresh air and cool breezes. We also read in other blogs that going to the canopy walkway is a good idea. We were delighted when we got there because it lived up to our expectations of fresh air and cool breezes. There were also hardly any tourists there though we did see a few hikers, so it was a quiet respite. But - we were so wrong for not researching more about the place beforehand. Little did we know that the hike was intense and we were both wearing the wrong outfits. Other hikers were wearing hiking clothes and no bag at all. We were the only ones wearing skirts and carrying huge bags.

La Creperie

If you have been reading this blog for quite some time now, you would know I love trying out different restaurants. I sometimes go back to the same restaurant only if it is accessible to me and if I really loved the food. Another restaurant I tried recently is La Creperie. It is not really a new restaurant but because the street where it is located is not crowded, you wouldn't think there is a nice restaurant there. And because the ambiance was to our taste and the price is not too steep we decided to go ahead and try it out.

What To Bring To A Kpop Concert

It's been more than 2 weeks now since I watched the BigBang Made Tour concert and until today, I still have major PCD. If I can relive those moments again, I will. BigBang was just really amazing and everyone had a great time. It was my first Kpop concert and I wasn't fully prepared. I had work and other stuff going on so there was very little time for me to prepare anything. But I sure learned a lot from this experience and if I ever watch BigBang perform again, I know what to bring with me and I will be fully equipped to enjoy the experience more. If you are going to your first Kpop concert, here the things I found essential (aside from the mos important thing which is your ticket) so you can have a funner and more memorable experience:

Travelogue: Batu Caves

A trip to Kuala Lumpur will not be complete without going to Batu Caves. It is one of the most popular attractions there. It is a Hindu shrine and one of the most popular one outside of India.

In my observation, Malaysia is heavily influenced by Hinduism and Islam - both are the dominant religion there, if my observation proves correct. As such, most attractions there for tourists relate to both religions. For Hinduism, it is the Batu Caves. For Islam, there is the Masjid Negra, also known as the Grand Mosque, which we failed to see because it was already closed when we got there. Going back to Batu Caves - every article and blog post we read prior to going to Kuala Lumpur suggested this place. It was quite far from the city center but worth the trip.

Sephora and Sasa Haul

I made a quick trip to Sephora and Sasa in KLCC Suria mall before heading back to our apartment during our last night in Kuala Lumpur. I didn't do much shopping there because we don't have enough time. We went to this particular mall because we were already hungry from all the walking we did that day and because we were waiting for dawn to see the lights of the Petronas Towers and KL Tower. There were so many Sephora shops around KL and I am so envious because we don't have that here in the Philippines. I wanted to go all out and purchase more but I had to restrain myself as I have another trip coming up. I had to cave in and be satisfied with the few things I got. If only money grows on trees, I might have purchase the entire Sephora store.

My Airbnb Experience

Whenever I travel, I often book at hotels listed in Agoda. Of course you get better rates in Agoda because they offer discounts and most of those listed offer free buffet breakfast which is always a plus. I am the type of traveler who wants everything to be convenient - I don't want to think much of where to eat and what to eat so the buffet breakfast is always a winning factor. But I've always envied how dreamy and instagram worthy the apartments posted in airbnb are. I have heard many great things about the website and the people whose houses/apartments are listed there so my friend and I decided, why not. We were looking for a house/apartment we could rent all to our own but they were kinda expensive. So we settle for a private room instead. It was the best decision we made.

Travelogue: Legoland Malaysia

I never thought I would enjoy Legoland as much as I did. It was the highlight of my trip to Malaysia. It was about 4 hours by bus away from Kuala Lumpur (it is nearer Singapore than Kuala Lumpur) but my friend and I still made the trip. It was worth the money and time. I particularly enjoyed the lego replica of various Asian landmarks such as Wat Arun of Thailand, Taj Mahal of India, Angkor Wat of Cambodia and the Forbidden City of China. They were a work of art. I can't imagine how much time, effort, and lego blocks went into creating these landmarks. Even the shadows are replicated. Each landmark was constructed with so much effort and attention to detail. We didn't go to the water park because that would mean spending more time inside the theme park. We only had half a day to explore and that is enough only for Legoland without the water park. Nonetheless, I had so much fun here and there were so many places that are OOTD background worthy.

Nars Orgasm Blush vs Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in Sweet

Nars Orgasm blush and Tarte Amazonian Clay blushes are both products that everyone seems to be using. People who have used both claim they are one of the best blushes there is. Aside from the nice color, they are also pigmented. But both are not cheap. Nars costs $30US and Tarte costs $28. Not much difference in price tag - both are quite pricey. But are they really worth it? Which would give more value for money?

#BBMADEinManila: A Fangirl's First Kpop Concert Experience

If you have been reading my blog, you know that I am a huge Kpop fan. It is even included in my bucket list before I turn 30 that I need to watch my favorite Kpop group perform live. I wrote that article last year without knowledge that they will be having a comeback this year. And earlier this year when they announced their comeback, I wasn't expecting them to perform in Manila - but they did. It was seriously the best 2 and a half hours of my existence. I may sound exaggerated for some of you but if you are a fangirl, you will understand how I feel. It ended well and I wanted more. I said to myself it will be my first and last Kpop concert but I take that back. I will definitely attend their concert again - if they have one in Manila a 3rd time.

I don't know if I will be making any more videos because I don't know what kind of videos to make. Do you think I should make more videos? Maybe Kpop reaction videos (but will only do for groups that I like)? I don't know. Maybe I will if I have the time and the confidence to do it. I just had to do this one because I can't contain all the emotions!

Travelogue: Bangkok, Thailand (Street Shots)

Though I went to Bangkok for work, management gave us our evenings free to do whatever we want. Aside from my half day tour of Wat Pho and Wat Arun, I had 3 evenings to roam around Bangkok and do more shopping (of course, what I was most excited about). Just walking around Bangkok was already a delight with all the sights that I saw and all the sounds that I heard. Here are just a few street shots of Bangkok taken with my Samsung Galaxy s5. I am still surprised with the quality of pictures this phone produces. I think it is even better than what my Canon Ixus 115HS produces. Yes, I use a digital camera for my blog photos. I am not really keen on getting a SLR mostly because of the weight. Also because it has too many functions that I will not be able to understand anyway.

Heirloom

My mom has always taught me to invest my money on jewelry. Clothes and shoes will wear and tear easily but jewelry will stand the test of time. Gold and silver are both elements that increase in value over time. They are not like clothes and shoes that will be worthless after a few wears. If you are looking to give a really nice and meaningful vintage jewelry to someone special but don't know where you can find one, I suggest going to Invaluable. This is an online store that auctions vintage, rare, and hard to find items such as jewelry and art pieces. Travelogue: Bangkok, Thailand (Wat Arun)

There are so many places such as temples and museums I wasn't able to visit during my very short trip to Bangkok. I wish I had more time to look around as it has been more than a decade since I first visited. But nonetheless I was able to visit two temples: Wat Pho and Wat Arun. The latter is also known as the temple of dawn and looking at pictures on Google, it looks best when viewed at dawn/sunset. The colors that reflect are just gorgeous and it made the temple look golden. But when I got there, I was disappointed it was under renovation/construction/maintenance. I am not really sure what they are doing with the temple because I didn't see any signage and tourists are still allowed to tour inside the temple premises. I don't want to stay too late as the area is quite far from the hotel I was staying at. And as a first time solo traveler, I have to be very careful. Sunset in Bangkok is also later than what I am used to in the Philippines which is why I can no longer wait to see how the temple looks like during sunset. It was already 7PM and there is still light. I have to get going at 6PM so I can reach my hotel before dark. Though my visit to Wat Arun was very brief, I enjoyed looking around. The temple is filled with so much attention and intricate details. The temple is also quite small compared to Wat Pho so it took me half the time to look around and take pictures than in Wat Pho.

Summer to Autumn Dresslink Wishlist

I've been shopping a lot lately and I really mean a lot! I have three closets full in what little space I have I call as my bedroom but I just can't stop it. Shopping is an addiction I allow myself to fall into and I don't think I will ever stop. I go shopping in malls, abroad, and of course, online. Who can ever resist shopping online when it is so convenient and best of all, cheap? Dresslink is one website that I always visit because of the wide selection of clothes, shoes, bags, and accessories they offer and at the same time because of the price. The designs are very trendy and you get them for a fraction of the cost than buying in stores. I spend hours on this website simply ogling at all the nice and cheap dresses that they have.

Product Review: Laneige White Plus Renew Eye Cream

I was born with dark under eye circles. Yes, I am one of the unfortunate people who will never be able to get rid of their dark circles. I am like a panda who has really pale skin but deep and dark eyes. I still have hopes though that my dark circles will lighten even just a few shades. I have tried various eye creams before that I am hoping will help battle my dark circles.

2 out of 30: 10 Tips for Traveling Alone

Top: from Korea | Necklace, Skirt, Bag: Forever 21 | Shoes: Payless

If you still remember my bucket list (which you can read on this post), traveling alone is one of them. I have always admired people who travel alone. I admire their liberty. I admire their independence. I admire their experience. I have talked to my parents about it but they refuse to let me travel on my own. Let's just say that my mom is a bit of a paranoid. She thinks the movie Taken will happen in real life. And my dad simply replied that he is no Liam Neeson and he won't be able to save me in case that happens. They do have a point. Even when you travel in groups, Taken can still happen. But my rebuttal would always be that I am not stupid and I can take care of myself. I will be at the hotel by 6PM and they have my word for it. But parents will always be parents and they can't help but worry about their children even if they are already adults and don't need looking after. So when my boss approved my training in Bangkok, Thailand I was over and beyond the moon excited. This is my chance to travel alone. My parents won't be able to say no because this is work-related and the trip will be sponsored by my employer. Now I have crossed out 2 in my bucket list. I still have 28 more to go and I am really crossing my finger I will accomplish it in 3 years and 2 months as I am turning 27 soon.

Travelogue: Bangkok, Thailand (Wat Pho)

Among South East Asian countries, Thailand is the most appealing to me. I did enjoy and love Vietnam when my friends and I went there last year and I am keen to go back to Singapore but Bangkok exudes a different aura. It has that eccentric vibe that magnetizes me. It is filled with so much culture (traditional and modern) that keeps you interested and drawn. Aside from shopping, I love Thailand for its food. It is also probably because among all the other South East Asian countries, this is where I feel most at home as it is very similar to the Philippines in many ways: 1.) the weather/climate is similar; 2.) exchange rate/cost of living is similar; and, 3.) they think I am one of them. It is a bit odd that I am often mistaken to be Thai. I don't think I look Thai though but whenever I would go to a store or restaurant, they assume I am Thai and would talk to me in their language. It is only when I reply that I don't understand them will they realize that I am not Thai. Even when we were in Vietnam the locals there think I am Thai. We do have a lot of similarities in terms of features but I don't think I look Thai. I mean most South East Asians look similar: Thai, Malaysians, Indonesians, Filipinos, etc. But to single out and assume I was Thai is quite odd. Do you think I do?

Travelogue: Subic Beach, Zambales 4 (Guide)

When I hear Subic, I don't immediately think of the beach. I know for a fact that Subic has beaches to offer but I am familiar only with the Freeport zone which means shopping, big hotels, and lots of dining options. I don't see Subic as a place for a quick respite. It is my first last Independence Day to go one of the beaches of Subic. I did not expect much because it isn't really famous for anything. There were lots of foreigners mainly because there is an American Navy Base here. But if I have the option this would not be my first choice. Though, as I mentioned, if you are looking for a quick respite, on a tight budget, and don't have enough time, Subic will probably your best option. It is only 2-3 hours away from Manila, hotels are not expensive, and food is also not expensive (and served in huge portions). It may not be the most beautiful beach the Philippines has to offer but is definitely a place worth visiting - even just once in your life.

Blogger Problems #2: Photo-bombers

Dress: Walk Trendy | Clutch and Socks: Forever 21 | Oxfords: Ichigo

Continuing the series of blogger problems I am sure most of us have experienced are the so-called photo-bombers. I don't know where, what and how this term started but is used to describe a person who is not supposed to be in the picture but is there. The most famous photo-bomber is Jennifer Lawrence as seen on the pictures below. This girl just loves to be in pictures. If it is Jennifer Lawrence doing it or some other famous personality, people find it cute, funny and charming. But when ordinary people do it, we find it annoying, irritating and infuriating (talk about discrimination). But I guess it is human nature to always make a distinction between famous and ordinary people; between the rich and poor; between the attractive and destructive.

Travelogue: Subic Beach, Zambales 3

Hat: Peaches on Top | Polka Dots Maillot: Debenham's | Sunglasses: Jellybean

I always try to get a nice tan each time I go to the beach. However, my nose is the only thing I see that had a change of color; and it's not even tan - it's red! My nose is always burnt to a crisp but when you look at my entire body nothing has changed. I can get very faint tan lines at the back but it's hardly noticeable. My nose is the only proof I have that I went to the beach. I do love my pale skin tone because I feel like tan or darker skin looks good on me but sometimes I wish my skin will get even just a little bit darker as proof that I do go to the beach and I do know how to swim..

Travelogue: Subic Beach, Zambales 2

Sunglasses: Aldo | Top: Stradivarius | Shorts: SM Department Store | Sandals: Asos

I used to detest going to the beach. I have professed my love and fascination for mountains before and I always say I like mountains and forests more than sand and seas. But lately, I am having a change of heart. I don't why but I am starting to prefer going to the beach than going uplands. I still prefer the cold weather though more than hot and humid but there is just something about the beach that is alluring. The limitless horizon and fierce sunsets - these are just among the few things that captivated my heart. I love going to the beach and I am thankful the country where I live has a multitude of beaches to offer.

Travelogue: Subic Beach, Zambales

Hat: Peaches on Top | Gingham Maillot: Cesa | Sandals: Asos
Watch: Swatch | Sunglasses: Aldo

I really thought I won't have a chance to go to the beach this year. Most of my scheduled trips are city tours and outside the country. Though I am excited to see other countries for the first or second time this year, I was a bit sad that I won't get to see the beach and swim. I am not the best swimmer and I am scared of going deeper than 5 feet but I do enjoy swimming and seeing what is down there. Luckily, my aunt wanted to go to the beach to unwind so my boyfriend and I gladly accompanied her. We initially wanted to go surfing in La Union but the hotels/resorts we were considering are all fully booked already. We ended up going to Subic beach in Zambales. We went outside the freeport zone. It is not the best beach - filled with trash on the shore and black rocky sand that I went home with so many cuts on my feet and  hands - but it is okay for a quick respite. We are also lucky that the resort we stayed in is located on the cleaner and more beautiful part of Baloy Long Beach in Subic. I don't know if I will ever have another beach trip this year but crossing my fingers that I will.

Milky & Sunny

I am always on the hunt for good breakfast places. I love breakfast food and I can live with just that - no kidding. I am attracted to the sweet smell of bread, pancakes and waffles and the mouthwatering saltiness of eggs and bacon. Imagine my delight when I happened to pass by Milky&Sunny one day. I was having a bad day because a security guard pissed me off and it was too darn humid. My friend and I were looking for a bubble tea place to cool off. As we were walking I saw a cute and quirky signage that says Milky&Sunny. We looked at the pastries on display and we were sold. We couldn't leave anymore. We were only supposed to drink bubble tea but we ended up having a full meal. We said we wouldn't spend money on food anymore because we've been eating too much but we still ended up buying a few choices from their menu. I may have felt guilty after for spending but if my stomach and taste buds are happy, I could forget about the guilt.

Job Interview: What HR Managers Look For

Top and Necklace: Forever 21 | Bag and Trousers: Mango | Pumps: Payless
Watch: Swatch: Lips: Nyx Femme

I am not part of the human resources department but the nature of my job closely works with the HR manager. I've received a handful of applications for the past month for a certain position in the government institution that I work for. Applications fell under than what we expected but there were still very few qualified ones nonetheless. Applying for the job is only the first step. What comes next is determined by the HR Manager. You may think that your resume is already good enough but HR Managers will see your resume in a different perspective. I am not claiming to be an expert in job applications and I've had my share of rejections in the past. But working closely with our HR Manager, there were a few things I've learned and discovered as to what they are looking for and how they see a resume. If you are one of the millions who recently graduated or simply want a new career path, I hope this short article can provide value on how you can improve your resume and ace your interview.

Blogger Problem #1: Finding the Right Location

Top, Skirt, Detachable Collar, and Bag: Forever 21 | Sneakers: from Korea

I've been blogging for 4 years now and I don't have any plans on stopping. Though I know I have those moments when I took respite because I had to sort my personal life out and just stopped blogging for a good amount of time, but I came back. I enjoy blogging and I don't see myself stopping any time soon. I may not be the most followed blogger out there but I enjoy what I do and I am happy with where my blog is going. As a "blogger" for 4 years now, I have encountered so many "blogger problems" just like many of you do. So I decided to make a series called "blogger problem" and share the lessons I learned from these problems.

Smart Casual

Top and Pants: Forever 21 | Heels: Call It Spring | Bag: Mango
Watch: Anne Klein | Lips: Revlon Lip Butter in Sweet Tart

I work for a government agency that doesn't have a strict dress code. Some of our senior staff members do wear more formal clothes e.g. coat and tie, collared shirts, etc. But mos of us have a more relaxed and flexible dress code. As long as you look appropriate to face clients and represent your agency, that is okay. We even can wear jeggings as long as it doesn't look exactly like jeans. On Fridays, we also implement the "casual Friday" dress code. I am lucky to be working in an agency that gives people more flexibility in terms of their clothes. Dress in a comfortable outfit but keep in mind that you are working and you have to look the part. And this is what I call smart casual.
