For me, pancakes are the ultimate Sunday breakfast. I always envisage my Sunday's to start with having thick and fluffy blueberry pancakes with bacon on the side paired with a cup of thick hot chocolate. A slice of cold mangoes on the side to complete my dream breakfast. Unfortunately, this only happen once in a blue moon. On Sunday's I wake up at 10 or 11 in the morning too lazy to prepare breakfast so I end up with a cup of instant hot chocolate, 2 slices of bread, scrambled egg and butter; the easiest breakfast to prepare AKA breakfast of a lazy person. Good thing though indie restaurants have been opening left and right these days and eating your dream breakfast has become a reality.
Because I am too lazy to cook breakfast, I decided to drag my boyfriend to a popular breakfast place near my university in college: Ally's All Day Breakfast. My friends have been raving about this quaint little restaurant. They specialise in breakfast food and is hugely popular for their huge pancakes and waffles. I was craving for pancakes for some time now and I thought, this is the chance to finally try this restaurant out.
I was surprised when I saw the restaurant. I was expecting something bigger and quirkier than what I saw. I was expecting a cozier and more sit-down restaurant type of ambiance. To my dismay, it looks just like another hole-in-the-wall restaurant. When I think of breakfast restaurants, I always picture cute and quirky interiors. Walls are decked with quotes and murals, seats and tables are designed with cozy prints, etc. The tables on the other side of the restaurants were made of tiles with a really cute Precious Moments inspired drawing. But the tables on the other side were ordinary and made out of plastic. The seats were also not as comfortable as how I thought breakfast restaurants should have. Though they do have something unique on one side of the 4 walls of the restaurant, it's not enough for me to say that I enjoyed my stay.
The restaurant is hugely popular for their waffles and pancakes though they also serve other Filipino breakfast favorite such as silog. My boyfriend decided to try the Tuguegarao Longganisa Silog as we have never heard of this type of longganisa before and I decided to order my favorite blueberry pancakes. I was disappointed with the silog. The 4 pieces of longganisa was too small - not enough for you to even finish the dish with equal serving of rice, egg, and longganisa in every bite. They served it with 2 eggs but that is not enough to compensate the small size of the meat. I felt like I was ripped off. But when the pancakes came, my jaw seriously dropped. The serving was bigger than what I imagined it to be. I know they serve huge pancakes here but OMG, the biggest pancake serving I have ever seen! There was 3 layers of thick and fluffy pancakes served with butter and cream cheese in between layers topped with whipped cream and blueberry compote on top. I did not even finish half of it which is a surprise considering I love pancakes and I am a huge eater. In terms of the taste, I don't think there was anything special about it. It tastes just like all the other pancakes I've tried except that this was extra fluffy and thick. I got tired from the sweetness of the pancakes that I suddenly had the urge to eat something salty. I saw that they were serving fries so I that is what I ordered. I was not impressed with the taste of the fries. First of all, the texture was not the same as deep fried french fries. It was fried but not as crunch and crispy on the outside and soft and juicy on the inside as deep fried french fries is. And second, the it tasted like something else. It was cooked in the same oil as something else. I thought the fries tasted weird so I asked my boyfriend to try it. He is a chef so he would know immediately if something is wrong with the food. He said it is cooked in the same oil as the eggs. It is restaurant rule never to cook different food in the same oil. I was extremely disappointed that they did that.
I was also not impressed with the service they provided. The servers were very lazy and did not have enough energy to be welcoming and friendly. The first server who attended to us were all smiles but she was moving too slowly and I wasn't even done ordering yet when she suddenly disappeared and attended to someone else. I mean, come on, I am not done talking to you yet and you just left? That was just plain rude. It also took them a long time to serve the food we ordered. The fries especially took a really long time before they served it and when they did I was extremely disappointed with the taste.

Overall, I will not dine here again. Though the pancakes were okay, it was not extraordinary and not something that I will crave for. Also, because the service is so poor and they cook different food in the same oil that I will never go back here.
