Travelogue: Subic Beach, Zambales

I really thought I won't have a chance to go to the beach this year. Most of my scheduled trips are city tours and outside the country. Though I am excited to see other countries for the first or second time this year, I was a bit sad that I won't get to see the beach and swim. I am not the best swimmer and I am scared of going deeper than 5 feet but I do enjoy swimming and seeing what is down there. Luckily, my aunt wanted to go to the beach to unwind so my boyfriend and I gladly accompanied her. We initially wanted to go surfing in La Union but the hotels/resorts we were considering are all fully booked already. We ended up going to Subic beach in Zambales. We went outside the freeport zone. It is not the best beach - filled with trash on the shore and black rocky sand that I went home with so many cuts on my feet and  hands - but it is okay for a quick respite. We are also lucky that the resort we stayed in is located on the cleaner and more beautiful part of Baloy Long Beach in Subic. I don't know if I will ever have another beach trip this year but crossing my fingers that I will.

It was my first time to visit Subic beach as I am always confined inside the freeport zone. I didn't know what to expect but I know it is not as beautiful as Boracay or Pagudpud. I am also aware that it is black sand. I don't have anything against black sand but I am just not a fan. I still prefer white sand. I didn't expect much from the beach because I am aware that there are lots of people there. But I was deeply saddened and disappointed with what I saw. It is probably the dirtiest beach I have seen. Tourists left their garbage on the shore: beer bottles, food packs, plastics, tissue, dog poop - you name whatever trash, you can find it there. It is so sad that people are not maintaining the beach. It could have been nicer and offer a more tranquil environment if only people knew how to throw their trash properly. It was disheartening. I don't know why there are so many foreigners on vacation there - particularly Americans (they have a navy base there) - because it is definitely not an attractive beach. It was polluted and people seem like they don't care. Why is that? I really hope the government of Zambales does something with this problem. If they want to attract more tourists, keeping the beach clean is one thing that they should pursue. I don't think I will ever go back here. I enjoyed taking pictures but I did not enjoy staying here.

  8. Love your swimwear!

I also went to Zambales this long weekend and my skin was burned really bad. Haha! I guess I enjoyed swimming too much plus I haven't been to the beach the whole summer because of work so you can only imagine how I elated I was to finally be able to go to the beach. Haha!

    1. Thank you! Same here! Sayang we didn't bump into each other. This is also my first and hopefully not the last beach trip this year. But for me, only my nose is burnt even when I stayed all day for 2 days lounging at the beach. I have a very faint tan line but hardly noticeable!

  9. Great swimsuit and pictures, I guess littering garbage has always been the number one problem in beaches. People these days have no respect and sense of responsibility for mother nature. And maybe proper waste disposal are not followed accordingly.

    1. Ditto! The local government should be strict in imposing proper waste disposal. The beach is such a waste; too dirty for people to truly enjoy and want to go back.
