A is for Arrogance

Everyday we meet people overflowing with arrogance. Call yourself lucky (and blessed!) if you don't encounter arrogant people on a daily basis. I am not saying I am holy and humble because I am definitely not. I also have moments when I become cocky and just plain conceited. But I don't let those moments get in my head. I may be arrogant at times but I know how to level myself and when I should stop. I just don't understand why some people feel like they're floating in the air and think of themselves as above everyone else. I just don't get it.

One of the traits I hate the most is arrogance (next to dishonesty and incompetence). There are people who exude so much arrogant aura that they tend to look down on everyone around them. They make everyone feel stupid, worthless, and powerless. Like your opinion, thoughts, and the mere fact that you are alive don't matter. They are self centered b*tches that think the world revolves around them. But in reality they themselves don't matter. They are also worthless and stupid and the world will go on even without them. I don't really understand what goes through the minds of these arrogant people because they seriously need a wake-up call. The world isn't going to end if they pass away so what makes them think they have the right to act that way? I just don't get it.

How to deal with arrogant people:
  1. Set clear boundaries - don't allow them to step on you. Don't allow them to make you feel like you are worthless because honestly, you aren't. Easier said than done - I know. But you have to step up and let that arrogant person know that he cannot bully you nor can he push you around. Learn how to say no and learn how to push back.
  2. Make your opinion short and concise - arrogant people are not very good listeners. They will easily dismiss what you have to say. And because of that you have to learn the art of getting your point across in a short and concise manner. If you can say it in three words, do it. The shorter your opinion is, the more impact it will have on that arrogant person.
  3. Don't feed their ego - these people need to learn how to get off their high horses. Don't feed their ego.
  4. Disagree in a polite manner - if you disagree on something, do it in a polite manner. Do not attack them because arrogant people know how to fight back and they do it really well. It will only end up in a heated argument that is very unprofessional. If you really disagree on something, do it the diplomatic way: polite and factual.
  5. Do not let what they say sink it - again, easier said than done. Sometimes words hurt more than physical wounds. True, arrogant people have mastered the art of verbal abuse. It takes a lot of resilience to shun their words and continue with your normal life. Though it may be difficult, you have to condition your mind to not let what they say affect you. Believe in yourself and have confidence.
An encounter with Mr Arrogant is inevitable. You never know; the person sitting next to you may be just that. But there are ways on how you can deal with them. Just remember to love yourself and be confident in yourself. Do not let anyone drag you down.
