Travelogue: City Gate Outlets, Lantau Island (Hong Kong)

I am very thankful for the past year as it gave me a lot of opportunity to travel. I went to places I haven't been before and was able to go back to places I've been wanting to go back for so long. I hope this year I get the opportunity to travel more and see new places. I already have a few trips lined up for the year and I can't wait for each of them to happen! But for now I hope you enjoy my pictures from my last trip for 2015 - Hong Kong.

I have been to Hong Kong before but it has already been 15 years and the landscape is so much different than what I remember it to be. I was only 12 then and it was my first trip outside the country. I didn't know what to expect and I was lost amid all the Chinese speaking people and Chinese character signages. I am not used to another English accent other than American and Filipino so my mind was confused. I was with my entire family but I wanted to understand [things] on my own. However, my young mind could hardly fathom the things happening around me. I guess traveling at a  young age, at least for me, should be limited to what kids would appreciate: theme parks, zoos, eating conventional food a.k.a fast food, and definitely no shopping (except for a few minutes in a shop filled with toys for kids). As my mom's daughter, I had no choice but to tag along as she fights  her way through the narrow alleys of Mongkok and spend all her HKD. I could not appreciate clothes and jewelry (jade to be exact) at that age so I was exclaiming words inappropriate for a 12-year-old inside my head and I really wanted to cry and go home. But I don't have a choice or else they would leave me on the street (my parents aren't that harsh really but I was afraid they would do that). Quite palpable my first experience in Hong Kong wasn't the best. I felt tired and didn't enjoy it because of all the tiring shopping my mom did. This is why it took me 15 years to want to go back. This last trip, I definitely had fun. My wants have changed, my interests have changed, and my purchasing capacity have changed. So many things have changed in me and so did  with Hong Kong's landscape. Now I can say I definitely want to go back.

These pictures were taken in City Gate Outlets located in Lantau Island. It is one MTR stop away from the airport and Hong Kong Disneyland. It probably took us about 30 minutes to get here (or even less as Hong Kong's MTR runs at a very fast speed) from Kowloon station. I was hoping to get branded items at an affordable price such as Michael Kors, Kate Spade, Coach, and Furla but prices were still expensive. Some are even more expensive than here (and we all know prices here in Manila aren't among the cheapest). I was disappointed but I had fun eating at their food court and taking pictures at this nearby space (not really sure what to call this area so let's just name it space).
