Japan vs. Korea: Poretol Pore Cover Base and Etude House Goodbye Pore Ever Pore Primer Stick

Japan and Korea are two East Asian countries that have fascinated the world not just because of their colourful and vibrant cultures but also because of their beauty industries. Japanese and Korean cosmetic brands have dominated the beauty industry in recent years and they are foreseen to continue to do so in many years to come. I, for one, am an avid fan of both countries’ beauty market. I find a lot of cool items and because they are formulated for Asian skin. But if you are new to the Asian beauty industry, it might become overwhelming as to which products and brands to get. So today, I am starting this new series I call "Japan vs Korea" wherein I will compare 2 similar products from Japan and Korea. This aims to help those who are new to the Asian beauty market become familiar with what is out there.

Poretol Pore Cover Base
If you watched my Osaka, Japan Haul you are probably already aware of this product. I already gave a mini review so please do watch the video if you haven't and if you want to see all the other Japanese makeup items I bought.

After months of using, I am still impressed with this product because of its ability to make my skin feel like a baby's. It really does make your skin feel baby soft after application. But in terms of covering the pores, I think other products can do better. It doesn't make your skin appear pore-less but it does help in minimizing its visibility.
  • Pros:
    • Natural skin tone color so it blends really well with any skin tone
    • Makes skin feel baby soft and smooth
    • Nice, light scent
    • Small amount goes a long way
  • Cons:
    • Does not make skin appear pore-less
    • Only minimal reduction in pore visibility

Etude House Goodbye Pore Ever Pore Primer Stick
I read multiple blogs before I finally decided to purchase this. It also has a cream version but according to blogs the stick is more suitable for oily skin which is why I decided to go for this. This is supposed to be the Asian counterpart of Benefit's Porefessional Primer and I must say that this lives to its claims. It did help in making my skin appear pore-less. However, no matter how much I love this product for making my pores invisible, it broke me out and I find the packaging unhygienic.
  • Pros:
    • Makes pores appear invisible
    • Small amount goes a long way
    • Makes skin feel velvety smooth
  • Cons:
    • Unhygienic packaging
    • Clogged my pores so had breakouts

Overall, between the two products, I would still prefer the Poretol Pore Cover Base over the Etude House Goodbye Pore Ever Pore Primer Stick simply because the former did not cause breakouts. It may not be as effective as the latter in hiding my pores at least it did not make my skin worse than it already is. I haven't tried the cream version of the Etude House Goodbye Pore Ever Pore Primer Stick and I am thinking maybe that is more suitable for my skin. I do like how it makes my pores look invisible so I might give that one a try next.

  2. I am definitely new to the Asian beauty industry so this was super useful and interesting, and I don't think I've ever tried any! I definitely agree the Poretol Pore Cover Base does sound better overall, I'd love to try it sometime, and ny skin can be quite sensitive to breakouts so the other one wouldn't suit me. Thanks for sharing :)

  14. Thank you! Etude House is a cult favorite Korean brand. Poretol will be a bit harder to find in other countries because this is a drugstore brand in Japan and not that popular.
