C is for Complacency

Bomber Jacket and Sneakers: Stradivarius | Hologram Cropped Top: People Are People
Skirt and Socks: Forever 21
Lips: The Face Shop Melting Lip Color in Rose Quartz

I've always loathed people who don't have the initiative. I hate them for even existing (okay, that is an exaggeration but still, I hate them)! I don't like working with them and I just wish that they would start to realize that they are more of a burden than a part of the team. But little did I know complacency is another trait I will come to loath even more.

Sometimes when people are too good with what they do, they start to feel bored and unchallenged. They feel like their learning curve has reached a plateau and that there is nowhere else for them to go but down. The result is complacency. Because they already know what they are doing and what they are supposed to do, they start to become complacent. They don't have the drive to go the extra mile anymore. They stay put and they don't exert extra effort.

Yes, these are people who used to excel. Yes, these are people who have the potential to be even more outstanding. Yes, these are people who are bright, intelligent and reliable. But these are also people who have become comfortable with what they do and don't wan to get out. These are people who decided to just do whatever it is that they are told, finish it and go home. These are people who don't have the drive to further excel and further stand out. They are comfortable where they are.

But how does one get out of this situation? I honestly don't know. It could be that they are uninspired or unchallenged. It could also be because they are tired. Complacency is the enemy of excellence and if you want excellent results, you have to keep pushing the boundaries.

P.S. These photos were taken the same day as last week's article hence the blurred outcome. I really hate self portraiture because there is no one behind the lens to check the quality. Argh!

  2. It's really frustrating to work with people like that, who could or could not be there in the room with us: it wouldn't make any difference. But you know, we do what we have to do, and if we have to work with them, we either do our job and theirs or tell them to get lost because we're there to work with people who are interested. Unfortunately there are people like that everywhere; we have to keep working for ourselves and don't let their behavior be contagious! xx

  15. Yeah, it is more about the habits. I am already so used to what I am doing that I feel like I reached a plateau and not learning anything new. I guess I have to challenge myself to thin differently to see things in a new perspective and learn something new.

  18. I agree with you! It's just frustrating sometimes that I have to adjust to other people and double my workload. I mean, he should do his and i should do mine. I shouldn't do both. But I have to adjust and learn how to deal with people like that.
