Product Review: Etude House My Beauty Tool Secret Brush 121 Skin

So many different type of makeup brushes are invented each year that I couldn't keep track of all of them anymore. But as I was in dire need of a new brush for BB cream application, I decided to read a few blogs and see what's new. I came across blogs that talked about the Anastasia Beverly Hills Oval Brush which hella expensive for me. I also read a few that talked about the Etude House My Beauty Tool Secret Brush 121 Skin. As Etude House has always been one of my favorite Korean brands and is definitely a lot more affordable than Anastasia, I decided to get one during their sale last 1-3 July. It is still quite expensive (original price is around 848.00PHP or around $18US but I got it at 20% off so I only paid 678.40PHP or around $14US).

Unlike most brushes I have tried before that can be used for liquid face makeup, this one is quite small. I don't understand the science behind that but it really doesn't matter. Probably so it can reach all the lines, cracks and corners of your face? I don't know. The brush works perfectly in blending product out and I don't think its size is an isse. It also comes with a sponge head which you can interchange with the brush head (yes, the head comes off).

Product Description:
Skin brush that helps easily smooth fluid foundation over the skin for a flawless finish (from etudehouse.com)

Directions for Use:
1. Apply a small amount of liquid or cream foundation onto the back of your hand.
2. Dab with brush and smooth over face.
3. Use broad strokes to sweep and blend the makeup onto the nose, forehead, cheeks and chin.
4. Use edges of the brush to blend the makeup into those hard-to-reach areas, like the corners of the nose, hairline and around the eyes and mouth.
5. Replace the head with Refillable Sponge and dab the makeup onto your face, making for smooth, all over coverage.
(from etudehouse.com)

Things to Love:
1. The bristles of the brush is very soft and smooth
2. It can reach the hard-to-reach areas such as the side of the nose and under the eyes
3. Product application is very smooth and easy
4. Easily blends the product on the face
5. Natural looking and airbrush effect finish
6. Easy to rinse (just like how you would clean any other sponge applicator or makeup brush)
7. Small handles makes it easy to hold and prevent slipping on the fingers
8. Very light (almost weighs nothing) that allows you to create light dabs and strokes on your face (preventing wrinkle formation)
9. Comes in an elegant gold frame.

Things to Hate:
1. It is a bit expensive for an Etude House brush
2. The head is difficult to change and switch. I could hardly remove the brush the first time I tried it.
3. There is no refill for the brush or sponge. You will have to buy the whole thing again when you want to change the brush.

Overall Verdict:
Overall, I give this product a 4.5/5. If only they sell refills of the heads, I would give the Etude House My Beauty Tool Secret Brush 121 Skin a perfect 5 score. It is very easy to use and creates a seamless and natural finish to your skin.

  8. I've seen that Etude House brush! I've thought about buying it because it looks like the artis brush which retails for over $300 USD for a set of 10! The Etude House brush costs about $16 USD, and it must be worth it. But I've seen dupes on ebay that supposedly work just as well. I hope you can do a comparison post about it! :)

  15. I've been seeing this kind of brush trending everywhere! It looks like a toothbrush haha kinda interesting how it works to blend in foundation. Too bad there isn't a refill for it. Good brushes already cost some, and to not be able to use them longer is a disappointment. Hopefully they soon will make refills. I love the brand Etude House too! They have great beauty products.

  16. Hahahah! I agree with you that it looks like a toothbrush. Kinda funny looking, don't you think? But yes, it does work well which is quite surprising considering how small the brush is. It felt soft and blended my BB cream really well. I do wish they would start selling refills because it is kinda annoying to buy the whole thing again.

  21. Yes! The refills would be the best thing this company can do to its clients.

  23. It is quite new. The only brush I have seen that is similar is the Anastasia paddle brush which looks like a hair brush.

  29. Me too! I just can't stand foundation that looks like it is sitting on top of your face. I love this brush because it blends the foundation/BB cream really well to give a natural-looking finish.
