Japan vs Korea: Battle of the BB Creams

BB creams will always be a staple in my makeup collection. I love the multi-functionality and how much time is reduced in my daily skin regimen because of BB creams. I have tried a lot and recently, I have started using Japanese BB creams as well. I used to patronize Korean BB creams but I find that there are certain occasions when Japanese BB creams works better. So if you are new to the Asian beauty world and can't decide whether to go for a Japanese or Korean BB cream, my comparison review might be helpful.

As you can see in the table above, there is quite a significant amount of difference between the two types of BB creams. Finish, packaging and consistency being among the most visible difference. Table below is how I would rate each type of BB cream.

Please be guided that this is according to my preference. I think Korean BB creams win over Japanese BB creams for various reasons. Packaging of Korean BB creams I believe is more hygienic despite pumps dispensing more amount than a squeeze tube. You have more control over the amount dispensed with a squeeze tube but hygiene wins when considering packaging in my opinion. There are qualities where Japanese and Korean BB creams I think are a tie. Most of the time I prefer matte finish but there are times when I think a dewy and glowing finish works well. I guess it depends on the occasion and the weather. SPF amount I think is also a tie between the two because though Japanese BB creams have lower SPF, I think they work well when taking pictures (i.e. not too ghastly white in pictures). If you are attending a garden wedding or any outdoor activity that will involve taking pictures, Japanese BB creams would work well. But if you are going to be exposed under the sun for a longer period of time, Korean BB creams have higher SPF to protect your skin from the intense UV rays. But it can make you look too pasty in pictures.

Overall, I believe that it is a matter of preference as to which type to choose. For me Korean BB creams are better than Japanese BB creams but I still love using the latter. I use Korean BB creams more but depending on the occasion and my activity for the day I will use a Japanese BB cream.

  4. This was such a great review and comparison! I've only tried a couple of BB creams but it's always good to hear about other ones as I'm often at a loss for what to pick when I need to replace mine and they don't have it in stock.

  5. Lovely comparison! I think I'd go for Korean BB if they usually come with high SPF! But loved that you put them so pedagogical against each other! Xx

  6. Important cream... Good reviews

  7. I have not tried the real Korean BB, but would very much like to buy one of them
Thank you for visiting my blog! I follow you now))

  8. What I used before was the Encara BB Cream (like around year 2011) but then switched to normal foundation when I found the perfect product and shade that would hug my face well. True that it's just a matter of preference. Where and when will you wear it, where are you going, what are you doing... These are to be considered when choosing which product to use. :)

  9. Hmmm....I haven't heard of that BB cream before (or maybe I have but just forget). But yeah, it all depends on what you want and need actually. For me, I prefer Korean BB creams because I find it has more benefits. But I reach out for Japanese BB creams on most days simply because of the matte effect.

  10. You should! It is the best thing that ever happened in the beauty world!

  11. Yes, very important. Thank you!

  12. Thank you! I tried to compare them in a way that will be easy to understand so people don't get too confused. I love Korean BB creams too.

  13. Thank you! I recommend Missha M Perfect Cover for Korean BB cream and Ettusais for Japanese BB cream.
