As a person who has an intense sweet tooth, I could not pass up the chance to visit Ghirardelli Square. I was too excited to visit the place that I went there with very high expectations only to be met halfway. The place is iconic and because of the cafe which is why people highly recommend visiting. But if you want to see something else (like what I did) you may be disappointed. The shops are too few and quite expensive and there is nothing else to see.
We rode the cable car from Market Street (we had to make a short detour to Market Street after Pier 39) and we alighted at Fisherman's Wharf. We walked for a few minutes to the left side to reach Ghirardelli Square.
But, though there are only a few things to see and do here, the cafe was a must! I love trying out various ice cream shops around the world and I must say that so far, next to the lavender ice cream in Tokyo, this was my favorite. They really went all out with the ingredients so you get your money's worth. I ordered the chocolate chip cookie dough flavor and OMG! It was filled with Ghirardelli chocolate. Every bite was filled with crunchy and delicious pieces of Ghirardelli chocolate. And the ice cream itself was creamy. I was thinking whether to order the hot chocolate drink because it was dark, gloomy and cold that day but I decided ice cream was still the best for that kind of weather. I highly recommend.
